Warehouse Management

The Warehouse Management program at Forbes Road Career & Technology Center is proud to be a partner with First Book, a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC to help provide brand new books to children in need across the country and Canada.  The Warehouse Management program has been working with First Book since 2011 – 2012 school year.  To date, First Book has distributed more than 100 million books to programs and schools from low-income families in the United States and Canada.

• Schedule freight deliveries of books from publishing companies
• Off-load pallets using forklift, pallet jacks and materials handling equipment
• Break down pallets and complete inventory records
• Store inventory in warehouse
• Notify First Book electronically of stock
• Apply shipping labels to boxes
• Package pallets for shipment
• Schedule pick up dates and times with transportation companies

The partnership with First Book  has  allowed the Warehouse Management students to get valuable “real” work experience in both shipping and receiving while helping to get books into the hands of children across the country and Canada.  For more information about First Book or to register your group, please visit www.firstbook.org.
